Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has opined that he would prefer Mauricio Pochettino managing Manchester United over Erik ten Hag.
Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was recently sacked after an underwhelming campaign, and the Blues are set to bring in Enzo Maresca as their new manager. Despite an unsuccessful spell with Chelsea, Pochettino is highly rated in England, and he has proven his quality with Southampton and Tottenham in the past.
There is no doubt that the Argentine manager has the quality to manage the biggest clubs in the world, and Stan Collymore believes that he could be a good appointment for Manchester United. The Red Devils have had a disappointing season as well, and they have missed out on Champions League qualification. Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure and there have been rumours that he could be replaced before the new season starts.
Collymore believes that Pochettino could be an upgrade the Dutchman. Erik ten Hag has been backed significantly in the transfer market so far, but he has failed to get Manchester United competing for the major trophies.
The former Liverpool forward wrote on Caught Offside, “I think that if you asked me who would do a better job with the youngsters and the seniors at Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag, I’d go for Pochettino every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.”
Erik ten Hag has not been able to live up to the expectations
Although he guided them to the FA Cup trophy this season, it is simply not enough for a club of their stature. Manchester United are expected to push for the league title and compete in the UEFA Champions league. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils are willing to show Ten Hag the door in the coming weeks.
A move for Pochettino would be quite surprising given his exploits at Chelsea this past season. Manchester United have been linked with other managers as well, and it will be interesting to see who they end up with.
The Red Devils will have to be careful about their next managerial appointment. They have a talented squad but they need a quality manager who can get the best out of them.
