Newcastle United will have to return with an improved bid if they want to prise Giorgi Mamardashvili away from Valencia.
According to a report from PlazaDeportiva, Newcastle United have failed with an attempt to acquire the services of Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Magpies want to reinforce their goalkeeping position, and they feel the Valencia shot-stopper could be a great addition to their ranks.
While they did knock on the Spanish club’s door for his services, their offer has been considered insufficient. The English club will have to return with an improved offer if they want to have Mamardashvili, valued at €45 million, in their goal starting next season.
The Georgian international has had a sensational rise since joining Valencia back in 2021. He has established himself as a mainstay in the Spanish outfit and is considered to be one of the best young shot-stoppers in Europe at this point in time.

While he still has three years left on his deal at the Spanish club, the 23-year-old seems keen on joining a bigger club in the upcoming transfer window. Newcastle United are the ones chasing his signature as they want to bolster their defence.
Their first-choice keeper Nick Pope has struggled with injuries, while Martin Dubravka has not been effective enough as cover. As a result, the Magpies want to sign a world-class goalkeeper in the summer to ensure they have a reliable man in goal moving ahead.
They feel Mamardashvili could be a great signing for the short as well as the long run and have been in talks to sign the Georgian international. Newcastle United even submitted an offer for the shot-stopper but unfortunately, it was turned down by Valencia.
Valencia are ready to sell but only on their terms
The Spanish club are already well prepared for the potential departure of the 23-year-old keeper having signed Stole Dimitrievski on a free transfer for the 2024/25 season. While they won’t have a problem sanctioning his departure, Peter Lim will not let one of his most valuable assets leave on the cheap.
Lim is looking for a minimum of €45 million for Valencia’s first-choice shot-stopper and is unlikely to lower his demands as Valencia have the upper hand with three years left on his deal. While the richest owners back the Magpies, they are restricted by FFP regulations. And having missed out on European football, they will find it difficult to place an offer close to the asking price.
