Manchester City considering Vincent Kompany as Pep Guardiola successor

Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on former captain Vincent Kompany as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola.

According to Give Me Sport, Manchester City are considering Vincent Kompany as an option when Pep Guardiola calls it a day. The Catalan tactician is reportedly considering leaving the Citizens next year.

Kompany is currently in charge of Burnley, and he could not prevent them from going down. The 38-year-old highly-rated tactician has been linked with clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich this week. It will be interesting to see if Manchester City decide to appoint the 38-year-old as their next manager.

Kompany did an impressive job at Burnley in the EFL Championship but is yet to prove his quality in the Premier League. The Manchester City job might be too soon for him. The Belgian might be a talented manager with a bright future, but he is not ready to take over at Manchester City yet. He needs to prove himself at mid-table clubs before joining one of the biggest outfits in the world.

Manchester City are used to challenging for major trophies every season, and Pep Guardiola’s successor will be under tremendous pressure. He will be expected to win league titles immediately, and Kompany might not be ready to handle that pressure yet.

Kompany is not ready for the Manchester City job

It will be interesting to see if the 38-year-old takes up another job this summer. A move to the Bundesliga could be ideal for him. He would get to secure more experience and work with top-class players at Bayern Munich, which could prepare him for a future move to Manchester City.

Managing in the Premier League is an enormous challenge, especially when he could be replacing one of the greatest managers of all time. Guardiola has done an exceptional job at Manchester City, and replacing him is an almost impossible task.

Manchester City will have to be very careful with their next appointment. There is no doubt that they have an exceptional squad at their disposal, and they will need to bring in a proven winner as the next manager. Expectations will be high from the Pep Guardiola successor and he will need to make his mark almost immediately. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old manager should concentrate on improving as a manager and gathering more experience before taking a high-profile job. The former Manchester City captain might eventually manage the English champions in future. But he is nowhere close to being ready for the job right now.
