Niko Kovac agents in contact with Liverpool

Liverpool have been linked with a move for 52-year-old former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac, with talks underway.

Niko Kovac was sacked by VfL Wolfsburg last month, and he is currently looking for his next job. According to German journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool have held talks with his agents regarding a potential move.

The former Bundesliga-winning manager has shown his quality with Bayern Munich in the past. But his time at Wolfsburg did not go according to plan. The appointment might come across as a gamble in the summer. Liverpool have been linked with managers like Ruben Amorim, Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, and Thiago Motta as well.

Alonso has already confirmed that he will continue with Bayer Leverkusen after guiding them to the league title. Amorim could prove to be a quality appointment for the Reds, and he is close to winning the league title with Sporting CP this season. The Portuguese manager might fancy joining a big club like Liverpool, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Kovac might not be the most inspiring addition

The links with Kovac will come across as underwhelming for the Liverpool fans, and it will be interesting to see how they react if the Reds end up appointing the 52-year-old as their next manager.

Liverpool need to bring in someone who can carry Klopp’s legacy forward, and Kovac has not won major trophies in a while. Perhaps, bringing in a talented young manager with the potential to develop into a world-class appointment would be the right way forward.

Meanwhile, Kovac will certainly be tempted to manage a club like Liverpool. It would be a major step up in his career. Having managed Bayern Munich in the past, he will know all about the expectations and the pressure of working at a big club. Liverpool are expected to win trophies every season, and it remains to be seen whether Kovac is ready to take up a challenge like that.

Any manager coming in as a replacement for Klopp will be under tremendous pressure. The German has done an exceptional job at Liverpool, and he has helped them win every single trophy at the club level apart from the UEFA Europa League. Kovac will be expected to follow in his footsteps, and it remains to be seen whether he can deliver if he lands the job.
