Manchester City want £30-40 million for Kalvin Phillips amid Leeds United links

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a permanent exit from the club ahead of the summer.

Kalvin Phillips is currently on loan at West Ham United, and the Premier League champions are prepared to sell him for a few of around £30-40 million. A report from Football Insider has linked him with a return to his former club Leeds United, and it will be interesting to see if the championship outfit are prepared to pay the reported asking price.

Leeds United are currently pushing for promotion to the Premier League, and they will be hoping to return to the top flight in the summer. If they manage to return to the Premier League, it will be a huge boost for their revenues, and they might be able to afford Phillips. The 28-year-old midfielder was a key player for them during his time at Elland Road, and he had established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the league.

He was a key player for the England national team as well. The move to Manchester City has clearly not worked out for him, and he has struggled for game time with them. The loan spell at West Ham United is not going according to plan either. A return to his comfort zone could be ideal for the England international, and it could help him get his career back on track.

Kalvin Phillips would be a quality addition for Leeds United

There is no doubt that Phillips is a quality player, and he could be a superb addition to the Leeds United midfield if they come back to the Premier League. With that said, the reported £30-40 million asking price is still a premium for a player who has been a major flop for Manchester City.

Leeds will probably hope to sign him for a more reasonable price if they are truly interested in signing him. Manchester City paid £45 million for the midfielder when they signed him from Leeds, and they will have to accept the substantial loss on him in the summer.
