Barcelona will have to square up against Juventus for the services of 22-year-old Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.
According to a report by Fichajes, Juventus have entered the race for the services of Mason Greenwood, and they are all set to battle it out with Barcelona to land the 22-year-old forward at the club. The Manchester United attacker has revived himself at Getafe, and his impressive performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.
Greenwood was regarded as one of the best young prospects in world football, while he was coming up the ranks at Manchester United. He made an impressive start to his first-team career but things took a huge turn when was arrested on the back of allegations of rape and assault.
The 22-year-old was out of action for over a year before those charges were dropped. Manchester United eventually ended up sending him out on loan to Getafe last summer. And, since moving to Spain, Greenwood has featured in 27 matches and has contributed towards 13 goals.
He has managed to revive himself and his performances have put him on the radar of some of the top clubs from across Europe. He will return to his parent club in the summer. While Manchester United’s new minority owners have talked about the possibility of reinstating him in the team, it won’t be that straightforward.
Barcelona, Juventus keen on Mason Greenwood
With Greenwood’s contract running out in the summer of 2025, a permanent departure in the summer is on the cards. Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been linked with him for a while now. The Catalan giants have watched him in action up close, and they feel he could be a great addition to their ranks.
As per reports, Manchester United representatives have met Barcelona’s sporting director Deco in the recent past, and Greenwood was one of the names that was discussed. While they are interested, nothing is certain yet, and Juventus have now entered the race making things a bit more interesting.
The Serie A giants want to bolster their attack, and Mason Greenwood is one of the names on their radar. His versatility and ability to score and create chances is what attract their interest. He has already revived himself and will only get better with time. As a result, the Old Lady are willing to invest in the 22-year-old.
Manchester United will look for a significant fee for their academy graduate who has shown great signs of promise. But, with Juventus and Barcelona both struggling financially, it will be interesting to see if either of them can meet the Red Devils’ valuation.
