Mike Maignan close to signing new AC Milan contract amid Chelsea, Real Madrid links

Mike Maignan could be inching closer to signing a new contract at AC Milan that would blow Chelsea and Real Madrid’s hopes.

According to Fichajes, Mike Maignan could lean towards signing a new deal at AC Milan amid growing interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid. The Serie A giants are keen to hold on to the 28-year-old French international for as long as possible, as a new deal would exponentially allow them to have a more significant say on a future decision.

Mike Maignan to sign new AC Milan deal?

Mike Maignan has proved to be a fantastic signing for AC Milan, as some also consider him a transformative arrival, helping them win the Serie A title two seasons ago. His stellar performances have shored up the Rossoneri backline, which has, in turn, attracted massive interest in his signature.

Real Madrid are considering him as a cover for Thibaut Courtois, while they have kept tabs on the 28-year-old French international for some time now. The links began emerging last summer when the Belgian suffered a severe knee injury, although Milan were uninterested in selling Maignan.

Chelsea are also keen, as they have considered him alongside many other top-draw keepers to replace Robert Sanchez. Milan had previously quoted figures close to €100 million to sell Maignan, although things might have drastically changed in the background with his situation.

As per the report, Maignan might be open to penning a new deal at the San Siro to extend his stay until 2028. His current deal expires in 2026, which may have prompted other clubs towards him, although a new contract would end speculation and the links to Real Madrid and Chelsea, albeit for the time being.

Will AC Milan sell Maignan?

For now, Milan have no intention to part ways with Maignan, as many would assume the new contract is the signal of their intention with the 28-year-old French international. However, an extended stay at the San Siro simply allows Milan more power on the negotiation table, especially if sides like Chelsea and Real Madrid enter the conversation.

Whether Milan will sell Maignan remains a puzzling question, although the possibilities still exist should a massive offer arrive on their doorstep. As things stand, the general assumption would see Milan continue with the 28-year-old at least for one more season with the new contract, although things could change should he not pen the new deal.
