Massimiliano Allegri offered to Barcelona, move unlikely

Intermediaries have reportedly offered Massimiliano Allegri to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who will unlikely launch the offensive for him.

According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Barcelona will have the chance to land Massimiliano Allegri this summer. The reigning La Liga champions are in the market for a manager due to the impending departure of Xavi Hernandez. But the Blaugrana will unlikely prioritise a move for the 56-year-old Juventus manager.

Massimiliano Allegri has been a high achiever in Serie A, enjoying success with AC Milan and Juventus. A midfielder during his days as a footballer, he was a journeyman who represented 11 clubs across 13 spells before hanging up his boots in 2001. The Italian tactician entered the managerial world in 2003 with Aglianese Calcio.

But the 56-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with AC Milan, joining the Rossoneri in 2010 after stints with SPAL, US Grosseto, Sassuolo, and Cagliari. He helped AC Milan end a drought in Serie A by winning the title in the 2010/11 season before enjoying incredible success at Juventus.

Allegri guided Juventus to five successive Serie A title triumphs and won six other trophies while reaching the UEFA Champions League final twice. But his latest stint with the Bianconeri has not gone to plan, and they have fallen considerably behind Inter Milan in the title race. However, his stock remains high, with intermediaries offering him to Barcelona.

The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a manager heading into the summer. The Blaugrana will part ways with Xavi Hernandez when the 2023/24 season ends, with the former Spanish international growing in frustration at the Catalan club. So, a change in scenery is on the cards, with Barcelona identifying several options to replace Xavi, including Arne Slot.

Massimiliano Allegri can be a viable target for Barcelona due to his trophy-winning pedigree. But while Joan Laporta has received the offer to land the 56-year-old, he will unlikely take it up. The Catalan giants are not prioritising securing his services this summer.

Meanwhile, Allegri’s future at Juventus is uncertain, with the Serie A giants reportedly mulling over replacing him this summer. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Italian tactician.
