Chelsea under pressure to sell players this summer

Chelsea will have to sanction the departure of academy graduates Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher in order to improve their financial stance.

According to Dean Jones via GiveMeSport, Chelsea will look to sanction the departure of Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher to raise funds. The Blues spent a fortune over the past few windows and they are now under pressure to sanction departures to balance things out.

Chelsea’s financial concerns

Since Todd Boehly bought the London club, they have spent millions on new signings. Those have resulted in them registering losses in the last two financial years. The Blues can’t afford to register a loss this time out and need to sanction departures to ensure they are within the spending limits of the Premier League.

As per the reports, they need to raise funds before the end of June. And, the best way to settle their finances is by offloading homegrown players as they can be listed as direct profit. According to Jones, they are looking to sanction the departure of Gallagher and Broja.

Gallagher & Broja’s valuation is a problem

They are under pressure to offload the duo but their value is going to create a dilemma for the London club. Gallagher has been a mainstay in their team this season but with his contract expiring in the summer of 2025, clubs are unlikely to fork out a big fee for him.

The only way they can get the fair value of their midfield sensation is by handing him a new deal. But, that is where the problem begins as they can’t afford to commit to a deal which justifies his current role in the team.

While there is interest in him from Tottenham Hotspur, they are unlikely to go all out. Spurs will look to play it slow and make the best use of the fact that there will only be a year left in his deal in the summer.

As far as Broja is concerned, things didn’t work out for him at Chelsea during the first half of the season so they decided to send him out on loan at Fulham. The 22-year-old forward has barely had a kick since joining the Cottagers.

The Blues were looking to make around £50 million but no club will be ready to pay that big a fee for someone who has hardly done anything in the recent past. Jones feels Chelsea need a reality check if they think they can get close to £100 million for the duo as they look to fix their financial problems.
