Barcelona interested in Arne Slot, who wants to manage them

La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly interested in 2022/23 Eredivisie-winning manager Arne Slot, who wants to manage the club.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Arne Slot is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a manager heading into the summer. And the Feyenoord head coach has emerged as a target, with the 45-year-old eager to manage them.

Arne Slot has become one of the best young managers in the world in the last few years. A midfielder during his days as a footballer, he enjoyed a two-decade-long career, spending most of his time in Zwolle and Breda. He entered the managerial world in 2019, six years after hanging up his boots.

But the Dutchman has risen in prominence since joining Feyenoord in 2021, having only managed AZ Alkmaar for a year. The 45-year-old guided De club aan de Maas to the UEFA Europa Conference League final in his first season with the club. But Slot’s stock rose in his second campaign, guiding Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title ahead of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

Slot’s men have been excellent in the 2023/24 season but will unlikely succeed in defending their crown, with PSV Eindhoven enjoying a mind-boggling campaign, having yet to lose a game in 24 outings (W21 D3). Nevertheless, the Dutch tactician’s stock remains high, with Chelsea recently showing interest in him. He has now emerged as a target for Barcelona.

Barcelona’s interest in Arne Slot comes in the wake of Xavi Hernandez’s announcement of his impending departure. Six weeks ago, the former Spanish international revealed he would leave Barcelona after the 2023/24 season ends. That has sent the Blaugrana scouring for a manager.

Several candidates, including Luis Enrique, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. But Slot is also a viable target, although he does not feature prominently on their wishlist. Nevertheless, he is an option, with the 2023/24 Eredivisie-winning manager keen on joining Barcelona.

The 45-year-old wants to manage Barcelona once in his career. But with other managers gaining prominence for the Blaugrana, a summer move is seemingly unlikely. So, it will be interesting to see where Slot’s career takes him next.
