Arsenal are reportedly hoping to agree on a new deal with midfielder Jorginho at the end of the season, with talks lined up.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Arsenal have scheduled contract talks with the agent of Italian international Jorginho, and it remains to be seen whether the two parties can secure an agreement.
Fabrizio Romano said, “Arsenal will speak to Jorginho’s agent in the next weeks, there will be conversations about his contract. Jorginho’s agent confirms that Arsenal will have their priority, he’d be happy to stay at the club but of course, we have to see how these conversations will go.”
Jorginho currently earns £110,000 per week at Arsenal, and a new deal is likely to come with a pay rise. The experienced midfielder has been linked with a return to Italy, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to continue in London regardless of that.
He has proven himself in the Premier League over the years with Chelsea and Arsenal. There is no doubt that Jorginho is an important first-team player for the Gunners, and keeping him at the club will be top priority for Arsenal.
Arsenal are currently fighting for league titles, and they need a deeper squad with experience and quality. Jorginho is certainly one of the leaders in the Arsenal dressing room, and losing him would weaken their midfield.
Arsenal cannot lose Jorginho and Thomas Partey in one window
Arsenal are already expected to part ways with Thomas Partey at the end of the season. They will not want to lose another key player in the same window. The Gunners have other priorities in the transfer market, and they cannot afford to sign two central midfielders in the summer.
Arsenal fans will certainly hope that the club can convince the Italian international to sign an extension with them in the coming months. The Gunners are currently third in the league table and if they can win the league title, Jorginho might be tempted to continue with them and do well in the UEFA Champions League next season. He is good enough to compete at the highest level, and staying at Arsenal could be a wise decision for him at this stage of his career.
