Manchester United will prioritise signing a striker this summer

English giants Manchester United are keen on adding a new striker to their ranks ahead of the next season.

According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United already have their priorities set for the next summer transfer window. The Red Devils’ new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS outfit have made signing a new number nine their priority before heading into next season.

Manchester United’s new owners and their plans

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently completed his purchase of a minority stake in Manchester United. Following the approval by the English FA, the British billionaire and INEOS now have full control over sporting decisions at the club.

They have already started making changes in important positions within the club. They have already brought in a new CEO and are looking to complete the acquisition of Newcastle United’s outgoing sporting director Dan Ashworth.

The new ownership wants to create structure and an environment where young players with potential can grow and help United return to the glory days. The Red Devils are expected to focus on young players with potential but for now, their priority is to reinforce their attack in the summer.

Lack of depth up top

Despite having spent a fortune on signing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta last summer, Manchester United still want to bring in another top striker. Hojlund might not have had the best of starts to life at the Manchester-based club but he has surely found form in the recent past.

The new ownership feels they do not have much depth up top. Anthony Martial is expected to part ways with the club in the summer. While they do have Marcus Rashford who can play as a nine, he is at his best on the left flank. As a result, they want to bring in a new forward who can support Hojlund and add more goals to the mix.

Manchester United have huge ambitions heading into the next summer window. But they will not have much funds to play with because of FFP reasons, which means they will have to focus on budget-friendly options.

While Manchester United will look to offload quite a few of their players, including Antony, their purchasing power will still be limited. As a result, it will be interesting to see which striker they push for in a few months.
