Tottenham considering James Garner as Conor Gallagher alternative

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make a move for the services of 22-year-old Everton defensive midfielder James Garner.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of James Garner. The 22-year-old Manchester United academy graduate has been in sensational form over the last 18 months, and Spurs are lining him up as Conor Gallagher’s alternative as they look to reinforce their squad in the summer.

Garner was a part of the Manchester United youth ranks since his childhood days. While he did get promoted to the first team, things did not really work out, and Everton secured his services in the summer of 2022 for £15 million.

The 22-year-old has been on fire since joining the Merseyside club. The Manchester United academy graduate did wonders for them towards the back end of last season as Everton managed to survive the drop on the final day of the campaign.

He has gone on to cement his spot in Sean Dyche’s side and has been ever-present in the centre of the park this season with 30 appearances across all competitions. His impressive performances have attracted the attention of numerous clubs, and Tottenham are one of them.

Spurs had an exceptional start to the season, but lack of depth has become a huge hurdle for new boss Ange Postecoglu and his men. As a result, Tottenham are looking to add more quality to their ranks in the summer and bolstering the midfielder is one of their priorities.

Tottenham line up James Garner as Gallagher’s alternative

They failed to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea in the winter. While their interest in him could reignite in the summer if he does not pen down a new deal, they have been looking for alternatives and have found one in Garner.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder could be an ideal fit for the Australian manager’s style of play. His versatility and his ability to get the job done irrespective of the role is something that makes him a great option for the North London club.

While the Merseyside club have been playing decent football in the ongoing season, they once again find themselves in the relegation zone, this time because of a ten-point deduction that they were handed earlier in the season. If they fail to survive the drop, Garner’s departure will become inevitable.
