Barcelona will soon initiate talks with the representatives of 44-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi, a target for Liverpool.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Roberto De Zerbi is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Blaugrana will soon hold talks with the representatives of the 44-year-old tactician. Meanwhile, the Brighton & Hove Albion manager is also a target for Merseyside club Liverpool.
Roberto De Zerbi has seen his stock skyrocket in the last few years. An attacking midfielder during his days as a footballer, the Italian tactician was a journeyman and did not settle down in one place. But after biding his time following his entry in the managerial world, he has gone from strength to strength.
The 44-year-old rose in prominence during his stint with Sassuolo, with the team playing an eye-catching brand of football. A short stint with Shakhtar Donetsk followed, and he has seen his star soar since joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022. De Zerbi guided the Seagulls to Europe last season, with the team reaching the Round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League this term.
While Brighton & Hove Albion have blown hot and cold in the Premier League, they can still finish in the top six. So, it is hardly surprising that Roberto De Zerbi is one of the most highly sought-after managers in the world. And the Brighton manager is a target for Liverpool and Barcelona.
Liverpool’s interest in De Zerbi stems from the need to find the successor to Jurgen Klopp. The German tactician has called time on his illustrious stint with the Merseyside club and will take a hiatus at the end of the 2023/24 season. The 44-year-old Italian tactician has thus emerged as a viable target.
As for Barcelona, the Blaugrana will lose Xavi Hernandez at the end of the 2023/24 season. The former Spanish international’s departure has forced Barcelona into the market for a manager. And they will hold talks with the representatives of Roberto De Zerbi this week.
Brighton will battle hard to keep hold of the 44-year-old Italian tactician. De Zerbi might even have a release clause in his contract, meaning the Seagulls will recoup a handsome sum from his departure. It will be interesting to see where he plies his trade next season.
