Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal scout 27-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney ahead of a potential move in the summer.
According to a report by HITC, Arsenal are keen on bolstering their attack in the summer transfer window. Their priority will be to add a new number nine to their ranks and Brentford’s Ivan Toney is one of their targets. The Gunners have recently scouted the England international.
Toney joined Brentford in the summer of 2020 and has gone from strength to strength since. He has featured in a total of 128 matches and has contributed towards 92 goals. He has already proven himself in the English top flight and has been on fire since returning to action after his ban came to an end.
The 27-year-old became the talk of the town with 20 goals in the Premier League last season. He was expected to be on the move to a bigger club last summer but before the season ended he was handed a lengthy ban for illegal betting.
The ban is now over and the England international has returned to action. He has featured in four Premier League games and has already found the back of the net on three occasions. His recent performances make it quite clear why top clubs want to sign Toney.
The Bees might have managed to keep hold of their star during the winter, but that is unlikely to happen in the summer with his contract expiring in 2025. They won’t risk losing out on him for free.
Arsenal could be a potential destination for the 27-year-old. The Gunners want to sign a new number nine, Arteta is not that happy with the output of his current forwards and wants a new striker who can guarantee goals.
Toney is one of the names on his radar, the Brentford striker has proven himself in the English top flight and he has a completely different profile to the strikers that are already present at the north London club.
Scouts of the English club were present in the stands of Molineux Stadium to watch Toney in action for Brentford against Wolves. They are very much interested in him and continue monitoring him. The England international had an impressive day on the field as he found the back of the net and helped his team win 2-0.
His performances suggest he could be an ideal fit for the Gunners. But, they are not the only ones interested in him, even Manchester United are keen on his signatures. They might have signed Rasmus Hojlund last summer but they are still looking for another striker, someone who can support the 21-year-old. Toney could be a great option for the Red Devils.
