Newcastle United have reportedly submitted an enquiry for Can Uzun, who will cost a cut-price €10 million-plus this summer.
According to reputed Italian journalist Florian Plettenberg, Can Uzun is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are in the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, FC Nurnberg will demand more than €10 million to part ways with the German-born striker.
Who is Can Uzun?
Can Uzun might be one of the most promising young strikers plying their trade in Germany. A native of Regensburg, he began his youth career at SSV Jahn Regensburg and represented Ingolstadt before arriving at FC Nurnberg in 2019. But he has chosen to turn out for Turkey thus far on the international stage.
The 18-year-old rose through the ranks at FC Nurnberg in the last half a decade and is now a regular for the first team. The 18-year-old has enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 season, amassing 13 goals and three assists in 20 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed.
Recent reports have linked Can Uzun with several well-known Premier League clubs. Meanwhile, European bigwigs like Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on signing the German-born striker. But Newcastle United are also interested, recently submitting an enquiry to sign him from FC Nurnberg.
Newcastle United Want Can Uzun
Newcastle United’s interest in Can Uzun stems from the fitness issues surrounding Callum Wilson. While the Englishman has been a prolific attacker for the Tyneside club, his persistent injuries and advancing age are compelling Newcastle United to scour the market for a younger striker.
Can Uzun has thus emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United. And with the Tyneside outfit already submitting an enquiry, a move might see the light of day. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old will not cost a bomb, with FC Nurnberg demanding more than just €10 million to part ways with him.
The asking price makes Uzun an attractive target, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United step up their efforts to sign him. For now, the German-born striker has emerged as a viable target for the Tyneside oufit ahead of the summer transfer window.
