According to Fichajes, Manchester United are ready to battle Chelsea for 17-year-old Barcelona prodigy Pau Cubarsi. The teenager has recently made a mark in the first team in Catalonia, which has garnered the prime attention of some top English sides.

It’s not very common for teenage stars to come out of academies to make an instant mark at top clubs. Few central defenders are emerging at different clubs, with Leny Yoro and Jorrel Hato that have come in for some keen interest from Premier League clubs lately.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Barcelona have chanced upon unearthing a teenage sensation of their own, with 17-year-old prodigy Pau Cubarsi making a stellar mark. He has recently started three out of the last four games under Xavi Hernandez, winning all those he began.
Hence, there are chances that Xavi will give him an extended run in the first team, which could possibly convince Barcelona to improve his current terms. As things stand, the 17-year-old Barcelona prodigy has a €10 million release clause that clubs could exploit with interest ahead of the summer.
Chelsea are keen on the defender, as they seek a replacement for Thiago Silva in the long run. The Brazilian contract ends in the summer, and financially, Cubarsi could prove to be a fantastic investment. Hence, signing someone with a massive ceiling like Cubarsi would make sense, although they must act fast to get his signature done, considering the level of competition. Barcelona would want to revisit the teenager’s contract immediately as only handling a new deal with a considerable release clause could prevent him from leaving immediately.
Hence, if they cannot improve his current terms and in the scenario, the €10 million clause remains, Chelsea and Manchester United could trigger it and leave the decision to the player.
