Real Madrid sweating over future of Paulo Iago

Paulo Iago might leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, with several European giants keen on signing the 16-year-old wonderkid.

According to Spanish journalist Manu Amor, Paulo Iago faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid. The 16-year-old has entered the final 18 months of his contract with the Spanish heavyweights. And several European giants are keen on signing him in the summer transfer window.

Who is Paulo Iago?

Paulo Iago is one of the brightest young prospects in Real Madrid’s fabled La Fabrica division. A native of Madrid, the teenage midfield sensation has spent his formative years thus far in his hometown. The Spaniard represented Parque Sureste, Adpi Rivas, and Estrella de Madrid in short stints before joining Real Madrid.

The 16-year-old has come leaps and bounds at Real Madrid, rapidly rising through the ranks to currently represent the Juvenil A side. Meanwhile, he had enjoyed an exceptional 2022/23 campaign, amassing 12 goals and 11 assists in 20 appearances for the Juvenil B team. That helped him earn the promotion to his current outfit.

Paulo Iago has continued making his mark in age-group football in his homeland and has also turned out twice in the UEFA Youth League. But the youngster’s long-term Real Madrid future is uncertain as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract with the Spanish heavyweights.

Set for a New Adventure?

Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Many European giants were also interested in securing Iago’s services last summer before he extended his contract with Real Madrid. But unless the 16-year-old signs another extension, his departure is inevitable.

Paulo Iago is one of the brightest young midfield sensations in the world. So, it is hardly surprising that European bigwigs are keen on signing the Spanish wonderkid in the summer transfer window. But Real Madrid will be loathe to lose such a highly-rated prospect before he breaks into the first team.

So, it will be interesting to see if the Merengues attempt to tie the 16-year-old Spaniard to a new contract in the coming months. Failure to do so will mean he will embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window.
