According to Fabrice Hawkins, Tottenham and Manchester City are keeping tabs on Bastien Meupiyou ahead of the summer transfer window. The 17-year-old French defensive sensation has been impressing at Nantes, who had no interest in selling him this month.

France has always had the knack for producing bright young talents, but in recent years, they have produced a different crop of central defenders. There are a few teenage stars already making an impact in Ligue 1, with Bastien Meupiyou making a solid mark with Nantes recently.
The 17-year-old French defensive sensation has been in excellent form for the Ligue 1 side and already has the attention of Manchester City and Tottenham monitoring Meupiyou’s situation. Some clubs might have tried to sign him this month, but Nantes have no interest in selling him.
Lille’s Leny Yoro is also attracting massive interest from elsewhere, with Chelsea, one of the clubs keen to snap him next summer. Now, Meupiyou’s profile also has similar admiration, with Nantes eager to extend his current deal until 2025.
The extension could allow Nantes to get a respectable transfer fee for the 17-year-old French defensive sensation next summer, with Premier League sides like Tottenham and Manchester City likely to stake their place ahead of the queue.

Tottenham secured Luka Vuskovic earlier in the season, while they are keen on further new talents in the young category. Spurs are eager to build a core of youngsters in their squad for the future, and hence, the links to Meupiyou will come as no surprise.
Manchester City are also looking at a similar strategy to Tottenham, as they too are keen on the likes of Yoro and Meupiyou for the future. Pep Guardiola’s side also has links to Barcelona sensation Pau Cubarsi, among other teenagers around the world.
Both clubs have a good enough scouting network to identify top talents at a young age and get them on board for the future. As for someone like Meupiyou, the two clubs might battle it out next summer, as all eyes will be on Nantes and their asking price.
