Liverpool are eager to retain the services of their 32-year-old mainstay Virgil van Dijk beyond the summer of 2024.
According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool have no intentions of parting ways with Virgil van Dijk. The 32-year-old is still one of the most important players in their squad, and they will give it their all to keep him at the club beyond the summer.
Jurgen Klopp Set to Leave Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s decision to part ways with the Merseyside club at the end of the season has shaken things up. The German manager will part ways with the club after a nine-year-long successful stay, where he won the Champions League as well as the Premier League.
With Klopp and his staff leaving, the future of a few Liverpool stars has become the talk of the town. The Reds’ skipper recently talked about Klopp’s departure, and he revealed that he was unsure about the future. Van Dijk’s decision might depend on who the next boss of the Merseyside club is.
Liverpool Do Not Want to Lose Virgil van Dijk
While the Dutch international’s future has become the talking point, the Reds are willing to do everything in their power to ensure they have their mainstays at the club for at least another season. Liverpool want to have both Mohammed Salah and van Dijk in their ranks despite their age and strong link with the German manager.
Klopp was the one who pushed Liverpool to sign the 32-year-old from Southampton back in 2018. He convinced the Reds to fork out £75 million to sign the defender, and he surely has been key to their success post that.
Van Dijk has helped the English club win all major titles, and he is amongst the best defenders in the world. He is the Reds’ skipper under Klopp as they chase the Premier League title in the 2023/24 season.
But, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2025, it will be interesting to see how the Reds convince him to stay at the club beyond the summer. If the Dutch international decides to leave, he won’t have a problem finding himself a new club as numerous top clubs are willing to have him in their ranks.
