Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy alleviates concerns about a potential collapse of Liverpool following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.
Jurgen Klopp has decided to part ways with Liverpool at the end of the season. The German manager has made his decision public that he no longer has the energy to continue as the Reds’ boss and has decided to spend some time away from football.
The Merseyside club have started looking for a potential successor. Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi are two potential candidates. While the search for a successor continues, former Liverpool midfielder Murphy has talked about the post-Klopp era via the Daily Mail.
There are concerns about a possible collapse after the departure of the German manager. But, Murphy feels that is unlikely to happen. Things that happened with Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson left won’t happen with the Reds.
United never really found the right replacement for Ferguson but Murphy feels things won’t crumble at the Merseyside club. The announcement by Klopp months before the end of the season has given Liverpool the license to be open in going out to recruit his successor.
Back in the day, things were quite different at a football club. The managers had a lot of power, they were involved in the majority of the decisions. Someone like Ferguson was at the centre of everything that happened at United. As a result, when he left they could fill his void.
But, things have changed a lot since those days. Football clubs are no longer reliant on a single individual and replacing them has become easier. As a result, moving on from Klopp might not be as difficult as it was for United post-Ferguson.
Alonso is the preferred choice to take over from the German manager. The former Liverpool midfielder has made a great start to life as a manager. He has done wonders with Bayer Leverkusen as they sit at the top of the Bundesliga undefeated.
The timing of Alonso’s emergence as a phenomenal leader makes him the ideal choice for the job. Another reason why Liverpool might not struggle is that the FSG have been quite good with their managerial choices. They might not have spent millions on players but their three managerial appointments Kenny Dalglish, Brendan Rodgers and Klopp have all done a great job for the club.
