Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are interested in acquiring the services of the 24-year-old LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.
According to Téléfoot, Chelsea are planning to sign a world-class striker in the near future to give their team the much-needed boost up top. While their priority target is Victor Osimhen, they also have their eyes on Jonathan David. The 24-year-old was been doing wonders in Ligue and the Blues are interested in having him in their ranks.
David came through the ranks at KAA Gent. He made it to their first team in the summer of 2018. After two successful years with their senior team, the 24-year-old made the move to France to join LOSC Lille.
The Canadian international has since gone from strength to strength. He has featured in a total of 162 matches for the French club and has contributed towards 84 goals. The Lille striker scored 26 goals last season and he has carried on in a similar fashion scoring 11 goals so far this campaign.
His incredible form has attracted a lot of attention from across Europe. Chelsea are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 24-year-old striker. The Blues haven’t been efficient enough in front of goal, and Pochettino is not happy with the performances of his strikers.
As a result, the clubs plan on landing a new number nine in the summer. Their priority is to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli. But, if that doesn’t go through, the Blues could quickly shift their attention towards Jonathan David who has proved himself in Ligue and could prove to be a great signing for the London club.
A summer transfer for the Canadian international is on the cards with his contract running down and Chelsea are aware of the situation. David only has 18 months left on his deal with the French club, as a result, in a year’s time he could negotiate a Bosman move.
Lille would look to avoid a situation where they lose out on their star striker for free and that is why they could look to cash in on him in the summer. The Blues have started monitoring the Canadian international closely as they ponder about making a move for his services.
