Arsenal unwilling to move for Callum Wilson

Arsenal are not ready to splash the cash on Newcastle United star Callum Wilson

Premier League giants Arsenal are in need of a prolific striker this January but appear unwilling to secure Newcastle United star Callum Wilson. This is according to Football Insider.

The 31-year-old is not a world-class player or someone who can lead the Gunners frontline for years to come. He is, at best, a short term fix and comes with much Premier League pedigree.

Brimming with athleticism and physicality, Wilson is a handful in the box and knows how to find the back of the net. While he is not the most appealing name to help re-ignite a title pursuit, some could argue that there is a case where he can be considered limited yet effective.

Wilson is a player who can be considered expendable at Newcastle. However, the Magpies are only willing to accept a permanent solution or an initial loan with an obligation to buy. Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the fray, perhaps driving up Wilson’s price should Arsenal make a move.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side are ready to wait until the summer to make a statement signing. The likes of Victor Osimhen might be available and it makes sense for Arsenal to bide their time than have to pull the trigger under duress.

Gabriel Jesus has had his moment but is far from prolific. Add to it Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka’s struggles and it is easy to see why Arsenal have lacked the cutting edge. Despite falling off in recent weeks, they remain in the Premier League title hunt.

Landing a prolific marksman could have given them a timely boost heading into the second half of the season. But by option against it, it remains to be seen if Arteta and Co have surrendered an opportunity to come out on top this season.
