Tottenham are not keen on selling ‘key player’ Emerson Royal this month as Ange Postecoglou has changed his mind about the Brazilian.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham have decided to keep Emerson Royal beyond the current window as Ange Postecoglou stands impressed by the Brazilian’s performances. The 25-year-old utility man could majorly impact the remainder of the season by filling in different positions at the back.
Tottenham will not sell Emerson Royal.
Emerson Royal was essentially surplus to requirements in the summer but stayed at Tottenham beyond the transfer deadline. Pedro Porro had already usurped his place since his January arrival, as the Spaniard started the new season as Ange Postecoglou’s first choice right back.
With suggestions that Tottenham might have cased in on the Brazilian in January, he has produced some notable performances in an injury crisis at the back. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have missed many games, in which Postecoglou preferred the 25-year-old utility man over someone more natural than Eric Dier.
With Dier already gone and Tottenham deciding on re-loaning Djed Spence, Emerson could have a significant role to play in the second part of the season. While they have acknowledged the 25-year-old utility man is not a natural centre-back by signing Radu Dragusin, the Brazilian could still be seen as the first-choice right-back cover for Porro.
A report claimed Tottenham had rejected Al-Nassr’s offer for Emerson, and now they are firmly keen to keep him on board. They might revisit their decision in the summer, but for now, Postecoglou considers the Brazilian a ‘key player’ following his impressive performances in times of need.
Spurs to conclude January business soon
Postecoglou must have been satisfied with the efficiency of Tottenham’s transfer business. First, Timo Werner arrived on loan with a buy option from RB Leipzig, and afterwards, Spurs landed key defensive target Radu Dragusin despite intense competition from Bayern Munich.
They may still allow some loan departures, but as far as incoming business goes, they might bring in one attacker before closing their window. Club Brugge’s Antonio Nusa remains their primary target, and they are somewhat favourites to land the Norwegian teenager.
Once they wrap up the winger’s signing, Spurs might close their doors and keep everyone who’s left intact, including Emerson.
