Arsenal advance contract renewal talks with Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal and 25-year-old Japanese utility man Takehiro Tomiyasu have reportedly advanced talks over a possible new contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, Takehiro Tomiyasu will soon sign a new contract with Arsenal. The Gunners are in advanced talks with the entourage of the 25-year-old Japanese utility man. They will also likely seal the agreement over a new deal with Ben White.

Who is Takehiro Tomiyasu?

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been an asset for Arsenal since arriving from Bologna in August 2021. The Japanese international spent his formative years in his homeland before moving to Europe by joining Sint-Truiden in January 2018. But he rose to prominence during his stint with Bologna.

The 25-year-old has proven himself as a utility man for Arsenal due to his versatility, as he can play across the backline. That has allowed him to feature 20 times across all competitions thus far this season, even though he is not an undisputed first-choice starter. But Tomiyasu has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Arsenal.

The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, including Bayern Munich. But things have changed in the last few weeks, with the Bundesliga champions cooling their interest in Takehiro Tomiyasu. Meanwhile, the Gunners have opened talks with him over a new contract.

Tomiyasu Set for a New Contract

The 25-year-old utility man will reportedly get a substantial hike in his wages if he signs a new deal with Arsenal. The Gunners realise Tomiyasu’s value to the first-team squad, considering he has been their best left-back this season. In addition, he has been the go-to man for Mikel Arteta in the big games.

So, it is hardly surprising that Takehiro Tomiyasu has received a new contract from Arsenal. Reports this month have suggested that talks between the two parties have been progressing. Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the two parties have advanced discussions over the new deal.

In addition, Arsenal’s talks with Ben White have also advanced. So, the two utility men should soon sign new contract with Arsenal, following up on the renewals that William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli, and others have recently penned.
