Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are considering making a move for the services of the 20-year-old Aston Villa attacking sensation Jhon Duran.
According to Nathan Gissing, Chelsea want to bolster their attack in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues are not completely satisfied with their performance in front of goal and are considering signing Jhon Duran. The idea of bringing the 20-year-old to Stamford Bridge is currently being discussed internally at the cub.
Who is Jhon Duran?
After coming up the ranks at Envigado, Duran joined Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire for a year before eventually making a move to Aston Villa at the start of 2023. Since joining the English club, he has featured in a total of 35 matches and has shown great signs of promise. While he has had limited game time, he has managed to put in impressive performances.
In the ongoing season, Unai Emery has involved him in 23 matches. While he has only had 659 minutes on the pitch, the 20-year-old has managed to contribute towards five goals. He has surely done his bit, which is why top clubs are closely monitoring him.
Chelsea Interested in Jhon Duran
Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in Jhon Duran. The Blues have been internally discussing the possibility of signing the 20-year-old in the ongoing transfer window. The West London club want to add the Aston Villa prospect to their ranks in order to reinforce their squad in the short term.
The Blues have spent millions on signing young talented players, and they have quite a few quality forwards in their ranks. But, they have not been scoring enough goals, which has been a concern. As a result, Mauricio Pochettino is keen on having a new number nine in his ranks.
While the former Tottenham Hotspur boss would love to sign a world-class number nine to solve all their headaches, that is unlikely to happen in the ongoing window. Victor Osimhen is one of their long-term targets. But Napoli won’t sanction his departure mid-season, and his signing will cost the London club a fortune.
As a result, a short-term fix is what they are looking at, and Duran is a name they have been discussing for a while. But, Chelsea have not made any final decisions yet. The Blues doubt whether they actually need to add a new number nine now because things have started to improve, and they do not want to invest in someone who might not be able to elevate the squad.
Chelsea could end up pullinAstong out of the race for the 20-year-old and focus on landing Osimhen who could be available in the summer. Meanwhile, if they do move for Duran, Aston Villa will also have to secure a suitable replacement.
