Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to block Conor Gallagher winter exit

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to retain the services of Conor Gallagher at Chelsea.

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher appeared set for a new journey in his career last summer but the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino has proven to be a turning point in his career at Stamford Bridge.

The Cobham graduate is among several players to come through the West London side’s academy in recent years. Several loan spells appeared to lead nowhere but Gallagher is now firmly in the reckoning as Pochettino’s roster continues to take shape.

According to journalist Paul Brown via Give Me Sport, Pochettino has immense faith in the English midfielder’s ability and is keen to see him stay put at the Bridge. Outperforming Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo is no mean feat but the 23-year-old has achieved to do just that.

Having also donned the armband this season, it is clear that Gallagher’s abilities both as a footballer and a leader have earned him much praise. However, that has not slowed down rumours of a potential departure as the 2024 January transfer window draws near.

Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and their interest does not appear to have abated. Ange Postecoglou has incorporated an exciting brand of football at the N-17 and Gallagher’s dynamic style of football makes him a perfect fit.

The Lilywhites have enough reasons to be optimistic about securing the player. After all, given their lavish outlay, Chelsea will need to cash in on players provided good offers come in. Unfortunately for Pochettino, Gallagher appears to be on the list.

With Reece James ruled out injured until April, Gallagher appears to be the natural fit to lead the side. Not only is he a Blue through and through but is also a local lad who knows what it means to don the jersey.

With Pochettino keen to separate the gold from the chaff, the club must back him as the team continues to be rebuilt. Whether Gallagher will pay the price for the club’s poor recruitment policy remains to be seen.
