Real Madrid will reportedly look to raid Atletico Madrid for 25-year-old Argentine international Nahuel Molina next year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Nahuel Molina is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for right-backs ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window. The 25-year-old Atletico Madrid defender has thus emerged as one of the candidates.
Who is Nahuel Molina?
Nahuel Molina has been in and out of the starting lineup since joining Atletico Madrid from Udinese last year. The Argentine international arrived at the Civitas Metropolitano after a solid two-year stint in Italy. Before then, he had spent the initial years of his professional career in his homeland.
The 25-year-old was a member of Argentina’s squad as La Albiceleste lifted the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar 12 months ago. Meanwhile, Molina has turned out 20 times for Atletico Madrid this season, chipping in with two goals and three assists. The player’s progress in the last few years has not gone unnoticed.
Molina has captured the attention of many high-profile clubs across Europe this year. Barcelona and Chelsea considered securing his services earlier in 2023. Meanwhile, many other Premier League bigwigs are currently keen on signing him. But they might be waging a losing battle, with Real Madrid also interested.
A Controversial Move to Real Madrid on the Cards?
Real Madrid will look to sign a right-back in the 2024 summer transfer window. Dani Carvajal has been one of the pillars of the club’s success in the past decade. But he is on the wrong side of 30, with his performance levels declining. Meanwhile, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho are not good enough to be the first-choice right-back for Real Madrid.
In addition, Nacho is in the final year of his contract with Real Madrid, leaving his future uncertain. So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a right-back to compete with Carvajal next term before taking over as the first-choice right-back. Several candidates, including Yan Couto, have thus emerged on their radar. But Nahuel Molina is also a viable target for Los Blancos.
The 25-year-old is well-settled in La Liga after 18 months with Atletico Madrid. But poaching Los Rojiblancos for a player might be a tall order for Real Madrid. The two local rivals do not usually indulge in deals. So, it will be interesting to see if Los Blancos can sign the Argentine international next year.
