Real Madrid will reportedly consider signing Willian Pacho from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt in the wake of David Alaba’s long-term injury.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Willian Pacho is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for centre-backs heading into the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt will demand at least €40 million to part ways with the Ecuadorian defender.
Who is Willian Pacho?
Willian Pacho has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Eintracht Frankfurt this past summer. The 22-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland, graduating from the Independiente del Valle youth division. But his first foray in Europe came with Royal Antwerp.
The Ecuadorian defender spent 18 months with the Belgian club before arriving in Germany in July. Willian Pacho has become a regular for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, turning out 24 times thus far this term. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.
Real Madrid Interested in Willian Pacho
The Merengues do not usually dip their toes in the market in the January transfer window. But an injury crisis is forcing Real Madrid’s hand, forcing them to look for a signing or two. In particular, they are in the market for a centre-back this winter in the wake of David Alaba’s season-ending injury.
The Austrian international has picked up a long-term knee injury that will also likely keep him out of next summer’s UEFA Euro 2024. Meanwhile, Eder Militao is also unavailable for much of the rest of the 2023/24 season. So, it behoves Real Madrid to scour the market for a centre-back.
Several defenders, including Goncalo Inacio, thus feature on Real Madrid’s radar. But the Spanish giants have also set their sights on Willian Pacho. But the 22-year-old will not come cheap, with Eintracht Frankfurt likely demanding at least €40 million to part ways with him.
Considering their other targets, like Antonio Silva and Giorgio Scalvini, will cost more, the €40 million-rated Willian Pacho will be a more cost-effective solution. But it will be interesting to see which defender becomes Real Madrid’s top candidate to bolster the defensive unit.
