Manchester United are in a state of indecision regarding the permanent signing of 27-year-old defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United have still not made a decision regarding the future of Sofyan Amrabat. The 27-year-old hasn’t been at his best since joining the Manchester-based club on loan in the summer and United might not look to make his move permanent.
Amrabat had a sensational 2022-23 season for both club and county. He helped Morocco become the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. His impressive performances resulted in a lot of interest and the 27-year-old was on the radar of quite a few clubs back in the summer.
But, the Red Devils managed to win the race for the services of the player. And, according to multiple reports, the player was keen on playing for the Manchester-based club. He has joined them on an initial loan deal with a fee of €10 million and there is a purchase option worth €20 million plus €5 million.
Since making the move to Old Trafford, he has featured in 13 matches and has racked up under 700 minutes. The Fiorentina midfielder hasn’t been able to hit the expected levels yet. While the Red Devils have faith in him and feel he could soon get back to his best, they are not certain about signing him on a permanent basis.
In the initial months, he was playing out of position at United but the 27-year-old has managed to find his place in the centre of the park. He has been doing a decent job but Erik ten Hag expects a lot more from the Moroccan international.
Despite the trust that they have in Amrabat’s potential, the Red Devils will make a decision regarding his future on the basis of his form until the end of the season. If the Fiorentina midfielder reaches the expected levels, they will sign him but if fails to do so, they might let him return to his parent club after the end of the season.
Manchester United do need to strengthen their midfield for the long run and they would love to have Amrabat in their ranks. But, his future remains up in the air and it will solely depend on what happens from now on to the end of the season.
