Crystal Palace eyeing Adam Wharton swoop

Crystal Palace have entered the chase for Adam Wharton after a serious, season-ending injury picked up by Cheick Doucoure.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are keen on signing Adam Wharton in January after the season-ending injury suffered by Cheick Doucoure. The Eagles consider the 19-year-old English midfield sensation as a viable replacement but may face competition from rivals, while Blackburn Rovers are unwilling to sell.

Crystal Palace fans wish for stability in their side and remain keen to see all their essential players fit and firing. This season, the Eagles have been without Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise for long periods, and now, upon their return to the side, they have lost Cheick Doucoure.

The Malian international suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, which has brought Palace back into the market for a new midfielder. The Eagles were looking for a replacement in the summer when Doucoure had links to Liverpool. But they might have to fill the gap left by him in January.

Palace have too much on their plate ahead of the next window. They are keen on signing a striker and a right-back but also keeping hold of key stars like Marc Guehi. The plans to land a forward and a defender might have to wait, and they now need a new midfielder.

Blackburn Rovers’ Adam Wharton has emerged as a target for the Londoners, with the 19-year-old English midfield sensation shining under Jon Dahl Tomasson. He has made more than 39 appearances since breaking through into the first-team plans of the Dane and already has plenty of Premier League suitors chasing his signature.

Newcastle Untited are among those keen and probably the biggest challengers for Crystal Palace in January. The Magpies are keen to add a new midfielder to add depth and replace Sandro Tonali. On the other hand, Blackburn have no intention of selling the 19-year-old English midfield sensation mid-season, which might force the Eagles to consider other options.

The report states Crystal Palace might go down the loan route, as they can sign players from Premier League clubs. Wharton could be a long-term option for them, but he will have plenty of top clubs chasing him when it comes to choosing his next destination.

Crystal Palace are an attractive proposition. But Blackburn’s demands could scupper a move in January. Hence, they might feel the chance of signing the 19-year-old is low and might switch their attention towards other targets.
