Newcastle United could trigger Serhou Guirassy release clause

Newcastle United are keen on signing the Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy.

A report from Football Insider claims that Newcastle want to sign him during the January transfer window and they are preparing to trigger his £15 million release clause. The 27-year-old Striker has been in spectacular form this season, scoring 16 goals across all competitions.

He could prove to be a quality acquisition for Newcastle if they can get the deal done. Given the fact that the player has a release clause in his contract, the club will be powerless to stop him from leaving if Newcastle United decide to pay up.

The reported asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his quality and he could transform Newcastle going forward. The Premier League side are currently without Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak because of injuries. They will need to add more quality and depth to their side if they want to secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season.

Guirassy could make an immediate impact in the Premier League and he has the physical and technical attributes to adapt to English football as well. The opportunity to play for a Champions League-level club will be an attractive option for the Guinea international and he is likely to be tempted to join Newcastle if there is a concrete proposal on the table.

The striker has been linked with other English clubs as well and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

Newcastle have had a number of injury problems this season and Eddie Howe will need backing in the transfer market in order for the Magpies to finish the season on a high. Apart from a quality striker, they should look to add more depth to the midfield and the defence as well. Midfielder Sandro Tonali has been banned for his involvement in an illegal betting scandal and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in a quality replacement.

As far as Guirassy is concerned, it would be a value-for-money signing for Newcastle if they can pull it off.
