Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering making a shocking move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial in 2024.
According to TEAMtalk, Paris Saint-Germain are amongst a host of European clubs showing an interest in Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial, with the Red Devils ready to cut their losses on the Frenchman when the transfer window reopens in January.
Manchester United are actively looking for ways to offload the injury-plagued French striker, whose only goal this season was in the EFL Cup victory at home to Crystal Palace. Martial is one of United’s highest earners, and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season,
So the Red Devils are willing to accept a cut-price fee, which would give them more wriggle room to strengthen their attacking options in January. The 27-year-old joined United from AS Monaco in 2015 in a deal worth up to £57 million, a world record for a teenager at the time. But in nine seasons at Old Trafford, he has failed to justify that hefty price tag.
Injuries have not helped, and neither has a consistent change in manager and position. Last season felt like a massive opportunity, particularly after a promising pre-season, though he could not stay fit and made just 17 starts across all competitions, with a mere 11 of them being in the Premier League.
He has now fallen behind 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order, and speculation suggests that Manchester United are eyeing another striker to provide backup for the young Dane when Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes his buy-in.
A host of Saudi Arabian clubs are ready to approach Martial with a tempting offer to sway him to the Middle East. However, at 27 years old, it remains to be seen if he would be willing to call it quits on his European career so soon. Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, Marseille, and Inter Milan are all believed to be keeping tabs on his situation.
Martial comes from Massy, which is in the vicinity of Paris. A move back home may well appeal to Martial, especially with PSG now seemingly collecting French talents like Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, and Lucas Hernandez in their squad.
With Kylian Mbappe still itching for a move away to Real Madrid, there could be a spot opening up for another attacker in their offensive department come 2024. Martial is free to talk to other clubs and could sign a pre-contract. So, it will be interesting to see whether PSG do send a proposal Martial’s way in January.
