Real Madrid will reportedly demand around €70 million to part ways with David Alaba if Saudi Pro League clubs come calling next year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in David Alaba. Real Madrid will ideally prefer not to sell the multi-time UEFA Champions League winner. But they will demand €70 million to part ways with the Austrian international if push comes to shove.
David Alaba has established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga since joining Real Madrid. The 31-year-old arrived in Spain after 13 years at Bayern Munich, where he won every trophy multiple times. He has continued his progress at the Santiago Bernabeu after immediately becoming a mainstay at the back for Real Madrid.
The Austrian international has encountered a few fitness issues since joining Real Madrid, for whom he has turned out nearly 100 times thus far, chipping in with five goals and eight assists. But Alaba’s future is uncertain amid emerging interest from the Saudi Pro League ahead of the January transfer window.
While a winter departure might be unlikely, a summer move might be on the cards. The report claims that Florentino Perez will be unhappy to lose the multi-time UEFA Champions League winner. But Saudi Pro League clubs are ready to test Real Madrid’s resolve with an approach.
Several Saudi Pro League outfits, particularly those owned by the Public Investment Fund, were active in the market during the summer transfer window. They have witnessed the arrival of well-known players like Sadio Mane, N’Golo Kante, and former Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema, among others.
The Saudi Pro League juggernaut began after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in January. They are keen on pursuing many other top-class footballers in the January transfer window. But Real Madrid will only let Alaba leave if a suitor shells out €70 million to secure his services.

€70 million might be an excessive fee for a player on the wrong side of 30. But Saudi Pro League clubs have not been shy to fork out astronomical amounts to land their top targets. Meanwhile, Real Madrid might have already started planning for life after Alaba amid links with William Saliba.
