Fabrizio Romano rules out Liverpool move for Kalvin Phillips

Fabrizio Romano appears to rule out a Liverpool move for Kalvin Phillips, stating the Reds are yet to plan their January window.

According to Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside, Liverpool currently have no plans to sign Kalvin Phillips. The £45 million treble winner could leave Manchester City in January in search of regular game time, but the Journalist does not think Liverpool will make the move.

Kalvin Phillips may have to re-think his stance about staying at Manchester City and move on from this project. Pep Guardiola refuses to select the former Leeds United star in his plans and only lets him maintain his bench role at the moment.

Fabrizio Romano recently stated it’s highly likely that Phillips and Manchester City agree on the idea of a departure. With diminishing game time with each passing week, the £45 million treble winner could also have next year’s Euros on his mind, for which he needs to keep playing regularly.

He does not have a shortage of interest from Premier League clubs, with Liverpool also linked with the midfielder in recent times. Jurgen Klopp had been looking for a holding midfielder, but there are doubts whether he considers the Manchester City star his priority choice in that role.

In any case, Romano has now ruled out a potential move to Liverpool for now. The Italian journalist insisted the Reds are yet to prepare the plans for January and may decide on their targets later this year. He also confirmed the idea of Phillips departing Manchester City but suggested he wasn’t aware of any ongoing negotiations with clubs.

Romano said, “As previously mentioned, it’s looking increasingly likely for Kalvin Phillips to leave Manchester City this January. But I’m not aware of any negotiation with Liverpool at this stage, despite what’s been reported elsewhere,”

“It’s very quiet around Liverpool as of now, no decision will be made in October for their transfer plans in the January window – it will be decided later this year.”

Liverpool have revamped their midfield during the summer window. The rapid changes came about when Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left the club in a hurry to embark on a new adventure in Saudi Arabia. Klopp desperately needed a new holding midfielder but ended up signing Wataru Endo.

Klopp has not used Endo vastly and has played Alexis Mac Allister as his premier holding midfielder in that system. Hence, those links to the £45 million treble winner made complete sense. But there are complications in recruiting a Manchester City player.
