AS Roma might not sign Romelu Lukaku permanently from Chelsea

AS Roma might pull out from the race to sign the 30-year-old Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a permanent basis.

According to a report by Fichajes, AS Roma could drop the idea of signing Romelu Lukaku on a permanent basis. The 30-year-old is currently on loan at the Italian club and has got off to a great start. Despite that, Roma might not push for his services next summer.

After reviving his career at Inter Milan, Lukaku returned to his childhood club Chelsea in a big-money move during the summer of 2021. But, he failed to get going at the English club and was sent back on loan at Inter last season.

He had a decent loan spell at Inter and they were ready to sign him on a permanent basis. But, they dropped the idea as soon as they learned that he was also in talks with rivals Juventus. Eventually, neither of the moves took place and Roma managed to sign him on loan.

The 30-year-old has got off to a great start since joining Jose Mourinho’s team. He has featured in eight matches and has already found the back of the net on seven occasions. The former Inter striker averages a goal every 87th minute.

His impressive performances have attracted a lot of attention. And, there are clubs that would love to buy him on a permanent basis. While he has been doing wonders for Roma, Chelsea have no intentions of keeping him at the club. They are ready to cash in on him and have set a €40 million price tag for the Belgian striker.

While Roma would love to sign him permanently, if they fail to qualify for the Champions League they won’t be able to afford him. And, they will have to look for options elsewhere. The Italian giants could find it hard to land him at the club because of financial reasons but there are other options as well.

There is interest in his services from Saudi Arabia and he could consider that option because of the huge wages they are ready to pay and the booming league.
