Luke Edwards claims Liverpool could hijack Real Madrid move for Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a 2024 summer move away from PSG, and Liverpool could rival Real Madrid in his pursuit.

Kylian Mbappe will be a free agent in the summer of 2024, and he is unlikely to renew his contract. Real Madrid are thought to be his most likely destination but Luke Edwards believes that Liverpool could look to hijack the transfer.

Edwards believes that Mbappe has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid. But the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool are still in the picture. Apparently, both clubs have made contact with the player’s camp through intermediaries in the past, and they could look to pounce in January.

“I think Mbappe has his heart set on this Real Madrid move, but I think there might be a bit of action in January. Premier League clubs have money. If Manchester City decided they wanted to make a move for Mbappe and got encouragement from Mbappe’s camp, I could see Manchester City going in for him. There have been vague rumours of Liverpool being interested as well. There has been some contact between clubs via intermediaries in the past. I think there might just be a bit of action in January. I don’t know where he would rather go,” Edwards said on BBC.

“Yeah, the likes of Man City and Liverpool, maybe they will come in for him in January. I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility for sure to hijack that deal, but all signposts point to him going to Real Madrid.”

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool make their move to sign the 2018 World Cup winner midway through the season. Mbappe is a world-class player who can transform Liverpool if he joins them. But a recent report revealed that he was ready to snub them.

Liverpool are in real danger of losing Mohamed Salah at the end of the season. The Egyptian will enter the final year of his contract, and he could be sold if he does not renew his deal. Saudi Arabian clubs tried to sign him during the summer transfer window, and they are likely to return in all likelihood.

Replacing Salah with Mbappe would be a sensational bit of business for Liverpool and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Paris Saint-Germain will not want to lose a key player midway through the season. But they are likely to lose him on a free transfer next summer. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can tempt them with a lucrative proposal in January.

Mbappe will add goals, pace, creativity and flair in the final third. He is also versatile enough to play anywhere across the front three. Jurgen Klopp has always been an admirer of the French international and he could help the 24-year-old develop further. Mbappe is already a world-class player who is destined to be the next superstar of the game.

He has already proven himself at the highest level for club and country and Liverpool would do well to secure a player of his calibre. Meanwhile, Real Madrid need to bring in a marquee signing in the attack especially after the departure of Karim Benzema.

So, Los Blancos will not want to miss out on the World Cup winner. Mbappe is thought to be angling towards a move to Santiago Bernabeu, and the Spanish giants will certainly be the favourites to secure his services.
