Manchester United will unlikely sign Italian international Giorgio Scalvini, valued at £50 million by Atalanta, this coming January.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Giorgio Scalvini is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Atalanta will demand around £50 million to part ways with the Italian international. But the Red Devils are in no position to afford the teenage prodigy’s signature in the winter transfer window.
Giorgio Scalvini has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world in the last few years. The 19-year-old took age-group football by storm during his youth career, representing Brescia and Atalanta. But he has come leaps and bounds since making his first-team debut for La Dea two years ago.
The Italian international has turned out 65 times thus far for Atalanta, chipping in with four goals and two assists. Meanwhile, the teenage wonderkid has also broken into his national team, making six appearances for the Azzurri. Scalvini’s progress has also captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United.
Recent reports have also linked the young centre-back with well-known outfits like Real Madrid and Liverpool. But Manchester United might be the most serious suitor pursuing Scalvini’s signature in 2024. However, a move in the January transfer window is not on the cards for the Red Devils.
The Italian international has a price tag of £50 million, a reasonable valuation for a player of his potential and ability. But with Financial Fair Play issues still looming at Old Trafford, Manchester United cannot afford Scalvini’s asking price. The report also suggests that the £50 million-rated defender is out of Manchester United’s reach.
Manchester United’s interest in Scalvini is understandable, considering Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof face an uncertain future at Old Trafford. With both players likely to leave, the Red Devils need to beef up their defensive unit. The Atalanta centre-back is thus a viable target for Manchester United.
But the 19-year-old highly-rated central defender is out of their reach. So, a move in the January transfer window might not be on the cards. That said, no club might succeed in prising the young defender away from Atalanta. So, a summer transfer battle should be on the horizon.
