Liverpool, Newcastle would have to pay €40 million for Khephren Thuram

OGC Nice are ready to green-light the sale of Khephren Thuram if interested clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle United can pay €40 million.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool and Newcastle United must pay at least €40 million to sign Khephren Thuram in the winter window. The 22-year-old midfielder missed out on a move to a big club during the summer but has plenty of suitors heading into January, with a transfer looking more than likely.

The fact that Khephren Thuram ended up staying at OGC Nice baffled so many people, expecting him to join one of the big clubs. Surely, there were some keen to sign the 22-year-old midfielder and seen as a top option that would suit many different managers.

The Premier League seemed like his preferred choice, with Liverpool and Manchester United were some of the clubs keen to take him to England. The Red Devils received encouragement from Thuram’s camp. But they may have faced shortages in brokering the deal from a financial standpoint.

Liverpool, rather surprisingly, took a different direction in the chase for Thuram as they went about signing Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch before the window shut. The Reds retain an interest in Thuram as well as Manu Kone, his French U21 teammate.

As per a recent report, Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign Thuram ahead of the January window. The same story also mentioned OGC Nice wanting at least €40 million from suitors to sell the 22-year-old midfielder.

The latest on the midfielder points to similar details, as Nice are ready to green-light a sale for their star midfielder in January and want €40 million as a bare minimum price. Clubs like Newcastle United also get a mention in the hunt for the 22-year-old midfielder.

The Magpies did strengthen their midfield with the arrival of Sandro Tonali, but they might look at Thuram as a way of future-proofing the area. The 22-year-old midfield target offers plenty of energy and is widely known for his recoveries and vision of the game.

Liverpool may have the upper hand in the chase, although Juventus are also keen to sign the Frenchman. As things stand, the Bianconeri might pose the biggest threat to the Reds in pursuit of the 22-year-old OGC Nice man.

Jurgen Klopp may see the wisdom in adding the midfielder. Reports earlier in the summer suggested the manager was yet not convinced of the Frenchman. As Thuram continues to progress, Liverpool may jump at the opportunity. They will certainly want to pay well below the €40 million figure that Nice want.
