La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly in the pole position to sign Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, whose price tag is €40 million.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. And the Spanish giants are the front-runners in the race to sign the Tottenham midfielder. The North London club will demand €40 million to part ways with the 28-year-old.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg faces an uncertain future at the club level after failing to secure a move away from Tottenham. The Danish international had been one of the first names on the team sheet at the North London club following his arrival from Southampton three years ago. But his stock fell after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.
With Yves Bissouma usurping him in the pecking order, Hojbjerg sought a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 28-year-old has also been keen on embarking on a new adventure. So, the summer transfer window brought links to several high-profile clubs, including Atletico Madrid.
But a move failed to materialise, with the player remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has since been a bit-part player under Postecoglou, managing only 170 minutes of game time. But the Dane is keen on departing from the North London club in the January transfer window, with Atletico Madrid still interested in him.
With his stock unlikely to rise, Hojbjerg wants a January move away from Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, the North London club will demand around €40 million to part ways with him amid emerging interest from Atletico Madrid and Juventus. And the Colchoneros lead the race to sign him in January.
The report puts Los Rojiblancos in the pole position to land the out-of-favour Tottenham midfielder. With Axel Witsel well into his thirties, Atletico Madrid can do with a younger holding midfielder. Hojbjerg is thus a viable target for the Spanish club, with the player keen on a stint in La Liga.
But Atletico Madrid should quickly make a move to secure Hojbjerg’s services, with Juventus and Manchester United also interested in him. It will be interesting to see if the Danish international lands in La Liga or moves elsewhere in January.
