Arsenal retain Pedro Neto interest

Arsenal maintain an interest in Pedro Neto after a stellar start to his season, but Wolves will make it hard for the Gunners to get their man.

According to Daily Mirror, Arsenal could return with an approach for Pedro Neto in January as they retain an interest in the 23-year-old winger. A long-term contract protects Wolves, and the Midlands club will make it difficult for the Gunners to do a deal mid-season.

Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar have done some brilliant transfer dealings during their ongoing project at Arsenal. They might have missed out on some targets in whom they still maintain an interest. The Gunners duo have constantly kept tabs on some of those players from their old shortlist.

For instance, they wanted David Raya a few years ago but finally took the chance to sign him when the keeper became available during the summer. Similarly, they retain an interest in Pedro Neto, with the 23-year-old winger proving his worth since the start of the current season.

Arsenal had wanted Neto in the summer of 2022. But a knee injury suffered by the 23-year-old winger may have prevented any move. Similarly, the Gunners may approached Wolves last summer, but having signed a long-term deal, the Midlands club had no intention to sell.

It was believed that had Arsenal made a bid, Wolves would have rejected it out of hand. They lost a host of key stars during the previous window, and then selling the 23-year-old winger would have come as a big blow for their season.

Arsenal could test their resolve in January as the report states Arteta might look at the 23-year-old winger. The Gunners have seen some shortcomings on the attacking side. The injuries to Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have stretched their resources in the final third, and the manager would like an alternative solution.

Arsenal are in the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of January, with reports pointing towards concrete interest in Ivan Toney, among other options. However, Arteta has been looking for wide options for the last two summer windows and may make a concerted effort to sign Neto.

With Wolves likely to want to keep the 23-year-old winger on their side, it would take a massive bid from the Gunners to turn their heads. Neto, a self-professed Arsenal fan, would certainly relish the opportunity to join the North Londoners and become part of a young group with the likes of Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Stylistically, Neto is very similar to Martinelli with his relentless running and energy in wide areas. Having two players of that sort in the attack would make Arteta a happy manager and certainly Arsenal a force in the final third.
