Tottenham, West Ham United wanted Armand Lauriente in the summer

Tottenham and West Ham United were among the teams keen on Sassuolo’s Armand Lauriente, as his agent revealed.

According to Tutto Mercato Web via Sport Witness, Armand Lauriente attracted plenty of interest to move in the summer. Among the clubs interested in the 24-year-old Serie A winger were Tottenham and West Ham United, but the attacker chose to stay put, as revealed by his agent.

The transfer window has a period when it’s clear which player any said club needs, and there’s a time after its closure when many unheard stories come out in the open. Such is the case with Sassuolo star Armand Lauriente.

The French winger had many admirers, as per his agent Roberto Meloni, who has listed out the array of possible destinations the 24-year-old Serie A winger might have gone on to. Yet, he insists, Laurentie decided to stay put at Sassuolo, where he seems happy with his growth and development.

Meloni said, “I think so, although it will depend on his performance this year. We already had a lot of interest in him, but on a growth level we didn’t feel like leaving Sassuolo for the sake of change. It doesn’t make sense for us.”

While revealing the many clubs potentially interested in the 24-year-old Serie A winger, Meloni mentioned a host of top names, including Premier League pair Tottenham and West Ham.

He continued, “Bayer Leverkusen liked him instead of Diaby. Then there was interest from Tottenham and it is no mystery that Giuntoli likes him, if he had stayed at Napoli.”

“In the Premier League there was an attempt by West Ham, but he wants to get to an important level, preferring a second season at Sassuolo to confirm himself. He’s growing well with Dionisi, he’s getting on very well. Of course, next year he is on the list of departures with offers of a high level.”

Tottenham ended the window by signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5 million deal, which showed they needed a new attacker in their ranks. They had surely chased several names in the market, including Lauriente, but chose to bring other options instead.

For instance, they might have looked at the 24-year-old Serie A winger early on but then decided on Manor Solomon, who has had a decent start to life here. Similarly, West Ham also held interest in several attacking options during the window.

They did agree on a deal for Mohammed Kudus from Ajax to shore up their attacking option; it remains to be seen whether he plays explicitly as a winger. As for Laurente, he hopes the chances to move out of Sassuolo come again in the future windows, although in the coming years, his value would have gone significantly upwards.
