Newcastle United join race to sign Gabriel Moscardo, Chelsea moving on

Newcastle United have entered the race to sign 17-year-old Brazilian sensation Gabriel Moscardo, who has been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona.

According to a report by iG Esporte, Newcastle United are keen on having Gabriel Moscardo in their ranks and have entered the race for the services of the Brazil youth international. The 17-year-old sensation has been on fire of late, and there is a lot of interest in him from across Europe.

Gabriel Moscardo was promoted to their first team of Corinthians in July this year. But he has already made 14 appearances for the first team. Overall, the teenager has featured in 26 matches this season and has racked up over 1,700 minutes.

He is a huge prospect for the future, and some of the biggest clubs have their eyes on the Brazilian defensive midfielder. Chelsea have been keen on having him in their ranks. The Blues even submitted a bid worth €20 million plus €2 million in add-ons.

However, the Brazilian club were not happy with that offer as they wanted a total package of €30 million with a €25 million initial fee and €5 million as add-ons. While Chelsea were keen on signing him, they did not really like Corinthians’ valuation of the 17-year-old.

As a result, they have cooled down their interest in his services as of now. However, they could return for his services when the winter transfer window opens. Meanwhile, there are other clubs who are monitoring him closely.

Newcastle have been doing some exceptional transfer business post their takeover. They might not have spent a fortune on players. But they have managed to sign some exceptional young talent. The Magpies believe Moscardo could be a great addition to their ranks. He could go on and become the mainstay of their team. As a result, they are ready to prise him away from Brazil.

While the Magpies have entered the race, they will have to battle it out with Barcelona for the services of the Brazil Under-23 star. The Catalan giants might have signed Oriol Romeu to fill the void left by Sergio Busquets but he is a short-term fix. They need a young midfielder who can help them in the long and the 17-year-old could be a great fit for the club.
