Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly want to sign 20-year-old Spanish talent Hugo Sotelo from Celta Vigo in a part-exchange deal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in Hugo Sotelo. The two La Liga heavyweights are ready to offer €20 million to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder. But they want to secure the services of the 20-year-old talent in a part-exchange deal.
Hugo Sotelo has grabbed his opportunities since enjoying his first-team breakthrough this year. The Spanish midfielder is a product of the Celta Vigo youth division and made his first-team debut in May 2021. But he has had to wait two more years before establishing a foothold at Balaidos.
The 20-year-old is benefitting from Gabri Veiga’s departure from the Galician club this past summer. Sotelo has made two first-team appearances for Celta Vigo thus far this season and should be a regular for them. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting several high-profile clubs. Barcelona and Real Madrid are among his prospective suitors.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are renowned for constantly scouring the market for prodigious young prospects. The Catalan giants have embarked on a youth revolution in the last two seasons, thanks in part to their financial struggles. And players like Alejandro Balde, Gavi, and Pedri have benefitted from the outlook.
While Barcelona signed more experienced players this past summer, they also landed Vitor Roque, who will arrive in January. Meanwhile, with Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu on the wrong side of 30, Barcelona will look for a younger option next. Sotelo has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana.
As for Real Madrid, Florentino Perez has driven the youth revolution at the Santiago Bernabeu in the last few years. Such an outlook has helped Real Madrid create a young core consisting of Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao, and Federico Valverde, among others. Sotelo is now on their radar.
