Liverpool, Newcastle United join Tottenham in Lloyd Kelly pursuit

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly.

Lloyd Kelly is a January target for Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur. And it remains to be seen whether they decide to come forward with a concrete proposal in the coming months. A report from 90min claims that the three clubs are plotting a January move for the player.

Liverpool need to find a quality replacement for Joel Matip, who has not been at his best for a while now. Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have had their fair share of injury problems as well. Virgil van Dijk is the only reliable defender at the club right now, and the Reds need more options at their disposal.

The Merseyside outfit need to add more depth to their defence and Kelly should prove to be a quality acquisition. The 24-year-old will relish the opportunity to play at a big club like Liverpool and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can reach an agreement soon.

Meanwhile, Newcastle need to plan for the future as well and they need someone who can partner with Sven Botman in the long run. Kelly certainly has the quality to start alongside the Dutchman at the heart of Newcastle’s defence. Newcastle have qualified for the Champions League and the opportunity to play for them could be an attractive option for the player.

Finally, Tottenham tried to sign the player during the summer transfer window as well, and they failed with a £20 million bid. It seems that they are prepared to return for him in January and will be hoping to sign him for a reasonable price.

Spurs could sell players like Eric Dier in January and Kelly would be a quality alternative. Meanwhile, Kelly is in the final year of his contract, and he will be a free agent in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Bournemouth will be under pressure to cash in on him during the winter transfer window, and it will be interesting to see which of the three Premier League clubs manage to secure his signature in the end. All three clubs would represent an exciting opportunity for the 24-year-old defender.
