Manchester United establish contact for Nelson Semedo

Manchester United have reportedly approached Wolverhampton Wanderers over a possible move for Portuguese full-back Nelson Semedo.

According to a report by Football Insider, Nelson Semedo is the subject of interest from Manchester United. And the Red Devils have contacted Wolverhampton Wanderers over a possible move for the Portuguese full-back, who joined the Black Country outfit in a deal worth £37 million.

Nelson Semedo is a graduate of the SL Benfica youth division. And he rose to prominence during his stint with the Portuguese club’s first team. And his progress earned him a move to Barcelona half a dozen years ago. But the 29-year-old failed to set the stage alight at Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana selling him to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth up to £37 million.

The Portuguese full-back has represented his nation now and then, amassing 25 appearances. Meanwhile, he has turned out over 100 times for Wolverhampton Wanderers, chipping in with two goals and four assists. And Semedo has now emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United’s activity in the market has slowed down in the last few days. And while they are closing in on signing Altay Bayindir, the Red Devils need more signings, particularly in the midfield and defence. But reports have not linked Manchester United with many right-backs.

While Jeremie Frimpong has been a target for Manchester United, the stories have simmered in the last few weeks. Nonetheless, with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka failing to be convincing with their performances, Manchester United can do with a right-back. That said, Semedo will not be a solution.

The Portuguese full-back has hardly been consistent for Wolverhampton Wanderers. And with his contract running until June 30, 2025, the Midlands outfit will likely demand close to the £37 million they paid to Barcelona to part ways with him. Nonetheless, the Red Devils have submitted an enquiry for the Black Country club for the 29-year-old.

It is unclear if Wolverhampton Wanderers will respond favourably to Manchester United’s approach for their first-choice right-back. For now, the Portuguese international has emerged as a possible option to bolster the Manchester United squad late in the summer transfer window.
