Chelsea are interested in Ivan Fresneda and ready to table an offer for the Spaniard with Barcelona, among other teams keen.
Sport insists Chelsea could bid for Ivan Fresneda to add more defensive cover to their ranks. Barcelona are also interested, but any move for the 18-year-old defender seems complicated for both teams.
On Thursday, the English media were rife with reports about Reece James’ new injury and the possibility of the defender missing many months with the issue. A definitive timeline is yet to be determined from Chelsea’s end, but outlets have already started linking them with new targets.
If James will indeed miss many months, then Chelsea probably cannot rely only on 20-year-old Malo Gusto to take up the mantle at right back. They have Trevoh Chalobah, but the academy star might depart before the window shuts.
Now they are linked with Ivan Fresneda, with the possibility of many other clubs also scrambling for the 18-year-old’s signature. Since January, the defender has had many suitors, and his performances warrant the interest.

Barcelona had also been interested, while Arsenal were also expected to rekindle theirs since the injury to Jurrien Timber. The Blaugrana were keen and even saw an offer rejected by Real Valladolid worth a reported €13 million, including add-ons.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now definitively linked them with a move for Joao Cancelo and insists a loan deal is close to an agreement. If the Man City star arrives, there’s no chance for them to afford another star like Fresneda, at least in this window.
Despite the report insisting Chelsea will make an offer for Fresndea, Romano has distanced the Blues away from the 18-year-old. The Italian reporter insists Chelsea are not remotely interested despite links in many media outlets.
Moreover, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed James’ injury was a matter of weeks rather than months, meaning Chelsea could count on their captain soon. While the Blues have remained unpredictable in the transfer window, an offer for Fresneda won’t surprise anyone watching.
While credible sources have denied interest, the Fresneda movement could become interesting as the window edges closer to its deadline. Arsenal, Barcelona and even Chelsea could find themselves bidding for the 18-year-old before the end of the month.
