Chelsea table bid to sign Robert Sanchez, player keen on move

Chelsea are reportedly hoping to sign 25-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now submitted a bid to sign Robert Sanchez. The reputed Italian journalist has added that the 25-year-old Spanish international is keen on moving to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea recently sanctioned the departure of Edouard Mendy. In addition, Gabriel Slonina is closing in joining KAS Eupen. So the Blues will need to bring in a quality goalkeeper as an alternative to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard is now the only reliable goalkeeper at the club, and Sanchez could compete with him for the starting spot next season. Chelsea had a disappointing 2022/23 campaign, and they will be hoping to bounce back strongly and return to the Champions League.

They need a quality squad in order to do well next season, and someone like Sanchez could be a handy option for them. The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Brighton, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly. He is currently behind the likes of Jason Steele and Bart Verbruggen in the pecking order.

If Chelsea can provide him with ample game time next season, a move to Stamford Bridge would be ideal for him. The 25-year-old Spanish international wants to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for club and country. So regular football at Stamford Bridge would be ideal for him.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can agree on a deal with Brighton soon. The Blues have struggled to find an agreement with the Seagulls for Moises Caicedo so far. The 21-year-old midfielder is a priority target for Chelsea, and they recently failed with an £80 million offer to sign him.

Apart from being a quality shot-stopper, Sanchez is excellent with his distribution, and he will add a new dimension to Chelsea’s play. Mauricio Pochettino prefers free-flowing attacking football and having a goalkeeper who is excellent with its distribution skills could prove to be an asset.

The 25-year-old will be desperate to prove himself in the Premier League once again and his hunger to succeed will be an added bonus for Chelsea if they manage to sign him. Sanchez has been linked with clubs like Arsenal as well and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
