Tudor Mendel is all set to join Barcelona and sign a three-year deal after leaving Chelsea upon the expiry of his contract.
Chelsea have lost one of their promising talents in Tudor Mendel, as Fabrizio Romano reports about an impending move to Barcelona. The 18-year-old wonderkid has been a sensational presence at the Blues’ youth side, but he left the club after his contract expired.
Chelsea have been one of the prominent sides to bring in plenty of young players worldwide. The Blues have earmarked an exciting project under the leadership of their new American owners, who plan on building an exciting team for the future.
The club have made a concerted effort to attract and sign plenty of top-notch talents, especially from South America. Angelo Gabriel joined them from Santos recently, while they have an agreement to sign Ecuadorian talent Kendry Paez, who will join in a few years.
Meanwhile, they are also keen on highly-rated Japanese talent Keisuke Goto, a 6 foot 3 striker reminiscent of Harry Kane. They are also linked with many new talents and recently lost out on Arsenal talent Ethan Nwaneri. After penning a new deal, the youngster set to remain with the north London side.

Overall, Chelsea actively identifies top young talents and ensures they are ahead of the pack once they become available. Now they are set to lose one of their top talents in attacker Tudor Mendel. The 18-year-old wonderkid’s contract has officially expired, and will now leave.
Mendel will join Barcelona after director Deco pounced on the opportunity to prise the 18-year-old away. The Catalans have proved successful in the pursuit, as Mendel will now sign a three-year deal and join Rafael Marquez’s youth side.
There’s no doubt that Chelsea will have made a concerted effort to retain one of their brightest academy talents. Yet, the player has decided to move on and take up a new challenge away from England. At Barcelona, the 18-year-old could feel he might take his game to the next level and possibly break into the first team in the coming years.
Whether Barcelona will pay a compensation fee remains the question. It’s not something unthinkable when luring players from other academies.
