Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, with the Red Devils now negotiating a fee with the Serie A outfit.
According to Italian outlet fiorentina.it, Manchester United are “strongly interested” in Amrabat and have “found an economic agreement” with Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat, who could cost them in excess of €30 million this summer.
Erik ten Hag reportedly has a limited budget for new additions excluding sales, half of which has been set aside for the impending Mason Mount transfer. A new striker and goalkeeper are reported to be their top priorities. However, they appear keen on bringing more than just one midfielder to Old Trafford this summer.
It seems they have turned their focus to Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat to further bolster their midfield ranks. The Moroccan international was one of the shining lights of the Qatar World Cup, and caught the attention of the Red Devils, who tried to sign the 26-year-old on loan with an option to buy in January. But Fiorentina rejected the mid-season transfer proposal.
However, they are expected to consider his sale in the coming transfer window, given that his contract expires in just over 12 months. A number of other top teams have him on their radar, including Barcelona, who had him on their list of potential midfield targets to replace Sergio Busquets.
Those rumours have died down in recent weeks, with transfer specialist Gerard Romero claiming that the Catalan club will not pursue a deal for the midfielder this summer due to their inability to register him as well as fork out the €30 million transfer fee required to land his signature.
Barcelona’s stance has left the door open for other clubs to initiate contact and try to convince the player to make a move elsewhere. Atletico Madrid and AC Milan have shown a strong interest in securing Amrabat’s services, with competition from the Saudi Pro League sides too.
Manchester United have now intensified their pursuit of Amrabat, who has already played under United boss Erik ten Hag at FC Utrecht. They have also stolen a march on their competition and have agreed personal terms with the player by offering to double his current salary. Manchester United and the Viola now need to reach terms over a transfer fee for the midfielder.
Reinforcing the midfield has turned out to be one of the Red Devils’ major priorities this summer, with Scott McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek all facing uncertain futures and could be offloaded in order to raise capital. Of course, talk of Mount’s move from Chelsea has dominated the Manchester United rumour mill so far in the summer transfer window.
However, given the aforementioned departures and the fact that both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are into their thirties, with the latter sitting out nearly half of last season with injuries on the sidelines, Manchester United may need another body in midfield in addition to Mount. And the 26-year-old Fiorentina midfielder will cost around €30 million.
Amarabat possesses some fabulous qualities. The tenacious Moroccan is a midfield conductor who will sit back and dictate the play with his vision and range of passing. He could be the ideal partner for Casemiro in the middle of this United’s side. It remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will be willing to spend at least €30 million on the 26-year-old.
